James Clifton ‘Jim’ Brown, 65, of Emerald Street, River Ryan, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011 at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital.
Born in Berwick, N.S., he was a son of the late Clifton Parker and Martha (MacLeod) Brown.
Jim worked at Cyberling Rubber Company in Toronto for six years before returning home to New Waterford. He was a member of the former St. Michael’s Church, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard. Jim was known to the staff at New Waterford Consolidated Hospital as a man with a great sense of humour who never complained. He was also known as the penny man in town for collecting and organizing pennies by date. Jim also loved watching sports on T.V.; namely baseball, especially the Blue Jays, football, curling and occasionally, roller derby.
Surviving are brother, Frank Brown (Alice), New Waterford; sisters, Ella Brown, Evelyn Odo, both of New Waterford, Sheila Brown (Nick), Eileen Brown, both of Scotchtown; three nieces and three nephews.
Besides his parents, Jim was predeceased by his longtime companion, Barbara Campbell and brother Frank in infancy.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration for Jim will be held Monday, Nov. 28 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue, with Fr. Victor Ozoufuanya officiating. A luncheon will follow at St.Leonard’s Parish Hall on Convent Street, New Waterford.
Donations in his memory may be made to the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital, 2nd Floor Medical, for their great care and love while Jim was a longterm patient for the last 10 years.
