Donald George ‘Donnie’ Cluett, 71, Sydney Mines, passed away peacefully at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital’s Palliative Care Unit on Thursday, Nov. 24, 2011.
He was father to Grace (Robert Brake), Corner Brook, Nfld., Arthur, Halifax and Brett (Penny), Ottawa, Ont. and enthusiastic grandfather to Lauren, Sam, Ethan, Liam and Sydney.
Donnie was born June 24, 1940 and raised in Sydney Mines, N.S., where he lived all his life.
Donnie is survived by his three children; five grandchildren; brother, Harold Cluett and brothers-in-law, Gordon MacDonald and Arthur Squarey; four sisters-in-law, Sade, Roberta, Florence and Leona and numerous nieces and nephews, including many to whom he was closer in age and became close friends.
The loss of his beloved wife, Ethel, almost three years ago, came at the end of almost 50 years together. He thought of her daily since then. He was also predeceased in his immediate family by parents, Evelyn and Arthur Cluett and sister, Jacqueline MacDonald.
He was an active volunteer, most recently with the Ceilidh Golden K Club of Sydney Mines and North Sydney, but had been involved with many community and Anglican church organizations over the previous decades.
Visitation will take place Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, with funeral service to follow Monday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, with Rev. Gloria McClure-Fraser and Rev. Carl Fraser officiating. Interment will be in Brookside Cemetery, Sydney Mines.
Memorial donations may be made to Ceilidh Golden K Club and St. John’s Anglican Church.
