It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our brother, Alex, on Nov. 23rd, 2011. He passed away peacefully at Ivany Place, Bedford, NS.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Duncan J. and Margaret (McInnis) MacDonald.
He was a graduate of St. F. X. University, receiving an award in Celtic Studies. Alex taught school at Breton Education Center, New Waterford for a number of years and retired in 1993. Alex loved to play cards and looked forward to the weekly game with the guys. He also enjoyed fishing at Lake Ainslie.
He is survived by brothers Blair (Shannon), Fall River, NS, Michael (Laurie), New Waterford; sisters Louise MacDonald, Bedford, Anne Marie (Frank) Robinson, Brampton, ON., Dianne Melendy, Smith Falls, ON.
Besides his parents, Alex was also predeceased by brother, Franklyn and a sister in infancy, Mary Agnes.
We want to give special thanks to the staff at Sandpiper Hills, Ivany Place, for the care and compassion they gave our brother.
Visitation will take place Monday, November 28th, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at McLellan Brothers Funeral Home, New Waterford, 862-7500 and a funeral mass to celebrate Alex's life will be Tuesday, November 29th, 10 a.m. in the Parish of Saint Leonard, Mount Carmel Ave. with Father Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow in the parish hall, Convent St. Cremation to follow with burial at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Northwood Foundation, Ivany Place, 2615 Northwood Terrace, Halifax, NS, B3K 3S5 or a charity of choice.
