South Bar lost a beautiful man to heaven after 82 years.
Dad was born, lived and died in the same home. Our Dad passed away suddenly on November 24 at the CB Regional Hospital with his loving family at his side.
He was the son of the late Surdick and Mary (Digou) Quinn.
Dad was a man with a strong work ethic. He worked at the Steel Plant from the age of 14 until he retired 45 years later. He was an avid swimmer at Polar Bear beach all summer long and sometimes in the spring and fall. He was a beautiful carpenter and there are many grateful recipients of his talent. A great handyman - he threw nothing away, but would rather bring it back to life! He was an energetic contributor and member of the Sydney Pensioners Club ensuring the turkey and dressing was ready for every banquet. He was an active and faithful member of St. Alphonsus Parish in Victoria Mines until it closed and more recently Holy Redeemer Parish.
Dad is survived by the love of his life for 61 years Delores 'Dolly' (Mortimer); his sons, Graham (Lynn), Sydney, Alan (Christine Lamarche), Ottawa, Terry (Edith), Halifax and daughters, Karen (Darcy Church), Ottawa and Jody (Parker MacDonald), Boularderie.
The highlights of Dad's life were his grandchildren (he says if he had of known they would be so much fun - he would have had them first!), Tammy Quinn (Andrew Lefebvre), Ottawa, Jennifer Pearson, Sydney, Holly (Jason Knott), Sydney, Laurie Quinn, Ottawa, David Quinn, Toronto, Sean (Hajar) and Matthew (Carmen) Quinn, Regina, Christine, Daniel and Liam Angus MacDonald, Boularderie, Alicia (Jamie Berrette), Oromocto and Chris Knott, Sydney. He is also survived by great-grandchildren, MacKenzie and Davis Pearson and Joshua Berrette. He was born into a large family with only two surviving sisters, Colleen (Leo Snow), Sydney and Dolores (the late Alan Cohen), Montreal.
Dad was predeceased by his siblings Bernard, Adrian, Howard, Raymond, Gertrude Duffney, Thelma Ratchford, Marion Preeper and Florence McCabe.
Visitation for Dad will be held at the Pier Community Funeral Home, Whitney Pier, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church Street) on Monday, Nov. 28, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate Dad's life will be held Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Church, Whitney Pier, with Fr. Paul Murphy and Fr. Everett MacDow concelebrating. Interment will take place in St. Alphonsus Cemetery, Victoria Mines with reception to follow at the Sydney Pensioners Club.
