Nellie Constance Mate (nee Candow)

— It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother into the arms of our Heavenly Father. On November 25, 2011, Nellie Mate aged 83 years. She surely sings with joy as she joins her cherished infant son Jimmie (May 14, 1952), her husband Henry (November 7, 2001), daughter-in-law Margie Mate (May 13, 2011), her mother and father (James and Mae Candow), brothers Robert and Walter Candow. Leaving to mourn, her devoted children and their families; Madonna Green (Kevin), Diane Fagan (Paul), Rosalind Williams (Brian), Fred Mate (Brenda), and Walter Mate; 10 grandchildren: Connie Atkins (Terry), Kevin Green (Brianna), Jim Foley, Fred Foley (Lisa), Scott Downs (Tracey), Stephanie Ralph (Chris), Laura-Lynn Downs, Mark Williams, Colin Williams, Jennifer Hiltz (Phil), Joanne Mate (Aaron), Michelle Butt (Herb); great-grandchildren: Kayla Atkins, Justin Atkins, Darnell Downs, Jenessa Downs; also leaving to mourn, 2 brothers: Fred Candow (Ann), and Robert "Buck" Candow (Viola); 4 sisters: Lorraine, Gloria Jackman (Peter), Doris Cassell (Hubert), and Yvonne; also very special friend John Brennan, as well as many other relatives and friends. We wish to express sincere thanks and appreciation to Dr. Margaret Woodman, and the Community Health Nurses for the exceptional care and compassion they gave. We thank God for the gift of her life and we look forward to meeting her again in our eternal home. May she rest in peace and rise again in glory. We will love you always. Resting at Barrett’s Funeral Home, 328 Hamilton Ave., on Sunday,November 27, and Monday, November 28, from 10am-12noon, 2-4pm, and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held from the Church of the Ascension, Mount Pearl, on Tuesday, November 29, 2011 at 11:00am, with interment to follow at Forest Road Anglican Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations in Nellie’s memory may be made to St. Michael and All Angels Building Fund, or the Church of the Ascension Organ Fund.
