Johnson, George Ernest - April 6th, 1939 to November 26th, 2011 of Truro. It is with great sadness we announce the passing of our beloved George Ernest Johnson. He passed, surrounded by his loving family on November 26th, 2011 in the Colchester Regional Hospital ICU, born and raised in Truro NS. George was the son of the late Bessie (McMillan) and Ernest F. Johnson. He was also predeceased by his brother, Roy (Melena); sisters, Betty Johnson, Edna (Russell) MacRae, Nettie (Gilmour) Singer and his infant sister, Jennie Johnson and his dear friend, Joe Saxton. He is survived by his ever-loving wife, Beryl (Aylward) Johnson of Truro NS, his sons, Roy (Toronto), John (Maureen), Steven Smith. His daughters, Michelle Smith (Trevor), Sheryl (Darren) Brooks and his daughter-in-law Sharon Smith, all of Truro NS; his ever faithful brothers, Albert (Bonnie), Middleton NS and Robert (Joanne) Johnson, Truro NS. His grandchildren, Jason and Jessica Smith, Justice, Emily & Dustin Nichols and Zac Leblanc; uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins; his dearest friend, Ronnie (Gloria) Trowsdale, Truro NS; close family friends, Becky and Lacey White (Chrissie and Melissa), Ron and Sharon Riley (Matthew and Daniel), Lenard Rector, Truro, Glenn (Ada) Gorrie (and a very special Lady Di.), Ottawa and friends. He was very proud to be a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 26, Truro, NS. He served 5 years in the R.C.A.F. including the Gaza Strip as a U.N. Peacekeeper, Egypt and Resolute Bay in the High Arctic. He worked for many, many years with Lanes Bakery and later on with Ben's Bakery as a route salesman in the Truro area. He loved spending time volunteering at the Legion and was known by Bill Casey as the “keeper of the wreaths” He dedicated many years of never failing devotion to the wreath and poppy campaign. He will be greatly missed and forever loved. We would especially like to thank Dr. Nadore, Dr. JK Singh and the I.C.U. staff at the Colchester Regional Hospital, as well as the many doctors and nurses from Halifax Infirmary QEII, I.C.U, you were all angels in our time of need. Special thanks to the V.O.N. and CCA. Staff, he loved everyone of you, as he would say, to some when they came and others when they left. Special thanks to his nieces, Ginger (Mike), Terri (Gordon) Bowie; friends, Sharon (Ron) Riley, Mary (Johnnie) and the many others who brought food, cards and most of all for your love and support. Visitation will take place on Monday, November 28 from 2-4 p.m. with a Royal Canadian Legion Tribute Service at 1:45 p.m. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 29 at 10 a.m., all in Colchester Community Funeral Home, 512 Willow Street, Truro, N.S. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to the Wreath and Poppy campaign at any Royal Canadian Legion. Condolences to the family may be made at: www.colchestercommunity.com
