Mary Bastien, a remarkable woman, will be greatly missed by her family and friends. God called her home on November 2, 2009. Mary was born at Blacklion, County, Cavan, Ireland on March 13, 1929. She was raised with four brothers on the family farm and left home at eighteen to attend training to become a nurse and midwife at Manchester, England. Mary came to Canada with a group of nurses to work at North Battleford, Saskatchewan in 1954. Over the next few years she worked and travelled around various places in the United States. In 1960, Mary married Ernie Bastien from Moose Jaw. Ernie and Mary had three children: Pat, Maureen and Joan. Mary worked as a maternity nurse in Moose Jaw for over thirty years. She loved to travel and took many trips with family and friends over the years. She spent the last sixteen years visiting with her three children and four grandchildren up in the Edmonton area. Mary is predeceased by her parents James and Mary McCorry, her brothers Terence and Tommy McCorry and her husband Ernie Bastien. Mary is survived by her two brothers Jimmy and Pat (Kathleen) McCorry, her nieces Yvonne, Dympna, Patricia and Donna, her three children Pat Bastien (Debbie), Maureen (Gerard) Landry, Joan (Jim) Stinert and her four wonderful grandchildren Tyler and Meghan Landry and Maya and Breah Stinert. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday, November 9, 2009 at 10a.m. at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic Church, 1964-3rd Ave. N.W., Moose Jaw with Reverend Father Neil Osiowy presiding. Interment will follow at Rosedale Cemetery. Prayer Services will be held Sunday evening, 7p.m. in the W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Chapel, 106 Athabasca St. E., Moose Jaw. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to a charity of your choice. In living memory of Mary, a tree will be planted in Besant Park by W. J. Jones & Son Funeral Home.
