Hilda passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family on Saturday, Dec. 10, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, she was the daughter of the late Clarence W. and Sarah M. (Fraser) Jennex.
Hilda was a member of All Saints Anglican Church, New Waterford. She was a hands-on grandmother, loving every moment she spent with her grandchildren. She enjoyed going to her granddaughter’s (Bailee) hockey games. Hilda greatly enjoyed dancing and spending her Sundays with special friends for dinner.
Hilda is survived by her companion, Fred MacNeil. Also surviving are Hilda’s three children, Glenda (David) Sheppard, Lisa Milley, both in New Waterford, Leo (Stephanie) Milley, Peace River, Alta., seven grandchildren, Jordan, Jared, Bailee, Dylan, Lydia, Lil' Leo and Alexis. Hilda is survived by 14 siblings, Clarence (Lillian), New Victoria, Fay (Roy) Gashlard, N.L., Charlie (Mary), Inverness, Winston, New Waterford, Conrad (Phyllis), New Waterford, John (Doreen), Ontario, Mary (Billy) Cadden, New Waterford, Eleanor (Burt) Sampson, New Victoria, Blair (Joan), Alberta, Virginia, New Waterford, Earl, New Victoria, Gregory (Judy), New Victoria, Glen, New Victoria, Lynn (Harold ) Jamael, Sydney; and a sister-in-law, Verna Fraser, Dingwall.
She was predeceased by a sister, Sarah ‘Babes’ Thompson, brothers, Murdock J. Fraser and Willie Jennex.
No visitation upon Hilda’s wishes. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Vernon Reid is Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m. in All Saints Anglican Church, New Waterford. Reception to follow in the church hall.
As an expression of sympathy for Hilda, memorial donations in her memory may be made to Palliative Care or the Cancer Society.
Many thanks to the wonderful doctors and staff at the cancer unit and palliative care for their excellent understanding and compassionate care.
