LYMAN, ROBERTA - Roberta Lyman passed away at the age of 99 years on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the Grandview Personal Care Home. Roberta leaves her family and friends to mourn her passing: her children Sylvia van Roosmalen of Maastricht, The Netherlands; David Lyman (Marilyn) of Moncton, N.B.; Bruce Lyman (Connie) of Grandview, Man.; and Anita Lyman (Ron) of Monroe N.C.; seven grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and friends in Moncton and Grandview. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Lyman in 1975. Roberta was born on August 21, 1912 in Glace Bay, N.S. to Marion and Robert Porteous, one of seven children. She married Ralph Lyman on Feb. 28, 1940, and they resided in Moncton N.B. where they raised their family. From 1971 to 1976 Roberta sold real estate in Halifax, but then returned to Moncton where she lived until 2003 when she moved to Grandview. Roberta resided at Valleyview Apartments until July, 2011, when she became a resident of the Gilbert Plains Personal Care Home, and later, the Grandview Personal Care Home. Roberta enjoyed travelling and visited her daughter in the Netherlands often as well as going to other parts of Europe, Egypt and Mexico. She was an avid bridge player and enjoyed crossword puzzles and reading. Roberta was very proud of her garden in Moncton, especially her roses. In retirement she took classes in stained glass work and has left many beautiful and artistic mementos for her family.
A memorial service was held from the Grandview United Church on Friday, December 16, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with The Reverend Steve Wilson officiating. Ruth Clark served as organist, accompanying the Grandview United Church Choir. Interment will follow in Moncton, N.B. at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to the Grandview Personal Care Home or to a charity of one's choice.
