It is with deep sadness we announce the passing of Ethel Armstrong on Thursday, December 15, 2011. Born on March 20, 1921 to parents Gunder and Ragna Chetney, she was predeceased by her parents, husband Edward Armstrong, brother Alfred Chetney and sisters-in-law June Chetney and Shirley Chetney. Ethel is survived by her sons Hugh (Dianne), David (Erna) and Gerald (Marilyn); eight grandchildren, Curtis (Twyla), Candice (Jesse), Alanna (Jeff), Heather (Brad), Rory, Crystal (Terry), Kimberly (Scott), Michael (Kendra); and fifteen great grandchildren Jordan, Sidney, Liam, Eddie, Jacob, Kailyn, Autumn, Brayden, Alyssa, Makayla, Ethan, Abby, Harris, Siena and Holden; her brother Gordon Chetney and many nieces and nephews. Ethel was born on the family farm near Lafleche, SK. She received her education at Woodale School and Lafleche High School. Ethel then took a one year business course at Tech in Moose Jaw. She worked retail in Melaval, and during the war worked in an ammunitions factory in Ajax, ON. Following the war Ethel moved to Saskatoon where she worked at Kresge's Department Store. Ethel married Ed on June 21, 1952 and moved to the farm at Briercrest. She was very involved with the United Church and community affairs. The family would like to thank the staff at Pioneers Lodge for the wonderful care during her time there. A Service of Remembrance for Ethel will be held at Briercrest United Church, Briercrest, SK on Tuesday, December 20, at 2:00 pm. Reverend Marilyn Keerak will officiate. Private Family interment will take place prior to the service at the Briercrest Cemetery. Donations in memory of Ethel can be made to the Briercrest United Church.
