On October 26, 2009, Walter Scott passed away peacefully at The Hamlets in Kamloops.

Walter is survived by his loving wife Peggy (Gladys), his son Robert (Dale) of 100 Mile House, daughter Kathryn (Leslie) Ervin of West Kelowna, and daughter Jane (John) Kikkert of Kamloops, his six grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Grace Caddell of Victoria, his sister-in-law Mildred Reynolds of Port Alberni, and many nieces and nephews.

Walter was raised in Royal Oak on Vancouver Island. He was employed in the logging industry there. He married Peggy Green on October 1, 1941. In 1945 they moved to Kamloops with their young son, Robert. For a short time Walter operated his own transport business before his employment with the Kamloops Correctional Gaol. As the Deputy Warden of KCG, Walter worked to open up the Clearwater Forestry Camp in 1957. As Warden of KCG, he opened the Rayleigh Prison Camp in 1963. In early 1967 the jail was shifted from Columbia Street to the old Navy Munitions site where Wal-Mart now is located. Walter retired in 1972. After his retirement, Walter and Peggy moved to Sorrento and then moved back to Kamloops in 1991. Walter moved to The Hamlets in September 2007.
