It is with saddened hearts that we are announcing the sudden passing of Herman Butts. Herman passed away Sunday, Dec. 18, 2011, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, he was the son of the late Roderick Eric and Isabel (Brake) Butts, and was a member of St. Leonard’s Church, New Waterford.
Herman retired from Devco after 30 years service, working in both Lingan and Phalan mines. In more recent years Herman also worked in Fort McMurray, Alta. Herman always had a smile on his face and a joke ready to be told. A true outdoorsman, he enjoyed his times spent at Lake O’Law, camping, hunting and fishing. He also looked forward his visits to casinos and his daily run to Tim Horton’s with his faithful dog Charlie at his side.
He is survived by his loving companion of 22 years, Marion Moulton; daughter, Eryn (James); son, Kyle (Judith); sisters, Alice, Carmel and Ann. Herman is also survived by three beautiful grandsons, Dylan, Brendon and special grandson, Kenzie who he adored; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents, Herman was also predeceased by a sister, Claudia, brother, Eric, three grandsons, Koady Butts and Bryson and Loghan Currie.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, New Waterford. A funeral mass will be celebrated 2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 22, at St. Leonard’s Church, Mt. Carmel Avenue, New Waterford, with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, followed by a reception at St. Leonard’s Hall, Convent Street.
As an expression of sympathy for Herman, memorial donations in his memory may be made to the Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation or the Canadian Cancer Society.
