Passed in: Edmonton, Alberta, Canada
Passed on: November 14th, 2011

It is with a great deal of sadness that we announce the passing of Arnie Isberg on November 14, 2011 in Edmonton, Alberta after a one year battle with cancer. A memorial services was held on November 26 in Fort St. John to honour and commemorate his well-lived life.

Arnie was born on February 16, 1956 in Fort St. John, BC. He was the fifth child of Stan and Pearl Isberg and part of a large and fun extended family. Arnie lived in Fort St. John for most of his life
although the family did move a few times and the most
significant move being to Penticton in 1969 where he attended Penticton High School, graduating in 1974 at the top of his class. Arnie was most proud of his Grade 12 year when the basketball team he played on, the Lakers, finished first in the league and went on to win the Okanagan championship tournament. After
graduation Arnie returned to Fort St. John and remained there for most of his adult life.

Arnie was always a very hard working man and spent time with Canadian Freightways, Harrison Crossfield (where he worked with his brother Les) and eventually began his own commercial delivery company that operated under Northwest Transport for a number of years. In 2010 Arnie landed his perfect job working in Fort Saskatchewan as a purchaser for Prospect Chemicals and found that his way with people, his drive, and haggling skills all came together to create his dream job.

Arnie’s life was full and he enjoyed a wealth of family and friends who loved him. His humour, his generosity, and his compassion were just a few of the characteristics that made him special. He was a good man who considered family above all else.

In 1985 Arnie was thrilled to welcome his son, Kory into the world and later Stephanie in 1987 and Alyssa in 1991. At thanksgiving of this year, Kory and Krista Hurst were married with a proud Arnie as Kory’s Best Man.

In 2001, Arnie met and later married Janice Osinchuk. Arnie and Janice lived happily in Fort St. John for 8 years, and then they took the leap and moved to Edmonton in 2010. Together they shared many precious memories in both places. One that made Arnie smile the most was when his grand daughter Anna was born and then once again when his grandson Harpyr was born.

Arnie was always very active in the community; he devoted countless hours playing and refereeing
basketball, playing racquetball, flag football and golfing. He loved camping and quadding with his family and was a talented woodworker. Arnie was proud to be a member of the Masonic Lodge and a past member of the Shiners’ Club. He dedicated many hours to the Eastern Star, and was past Worthy Patron in both the Alcan Chapter #91 and also Peace Chapter #58.

Arnie was remarkably thoughtful, hardworking, and fun-loving person. He was a person of great strength, patience and courage. Above all, Arnie believed in family and the values that went along with it. He loved his children, grand children and his wife Janice with all his heart and he always made sure they knew just how much they were loved.

Arnie will be remembered with great love by his wife Janice, son Kory (Krista), daughters Stephanie and
Alyssa, and grandchildren Anna and Harpyr. He also leaves to mourn his mom Pearl, sister Elaine Daunes, and brothers Les (Bonnie), Lorne (Karen), Vern (Dorinda). He will be greatly missed by his in-laws Willie and Marge Osinchuk, Darrell (Ruthanne), Jim, and Sharen (Abdul)

Janice wishes to thank all the family and friends for all the support that was given over the past year. Whether it was helping with the house, doing yard work, supplying casseroles, helping financially, visiting, phoning, or writing it all helped to strengthen our resolve as we battled our way to the finish line. Thank you so much for being there for us.

A special thank you to Randy Pauls for leading the memorial service, Chris Worton for organizing everything, and to our special ladies of the Eastern Star for putting on the luncheon. Also thank you to those who brought squares and donated food or money for the luncheon. This is the reason why Fort St. John will always have a special place in our hearts.

Arnie, we love you and thank you for being a part of our lives. You will live on in our memories and hearts forever and we will never stop missing you.
