John Leslie 'Knobsy' Belknap July 7th, 1957- Nov. 30th, 2011

John was born in Vancouver, BC on July 7th, 1957 to the proud parents of Ronald and Barbara Belknap. Johnny came from a large family of siblings. He grew up in the Greater Vancouver area, where he made many lifetime friends. He was a member of the Burnaby Burnout crew. John was an avid skier from a young age. He came to Whistler on a ski trip in the late 1970’s and decided to make Whistler his home. Staying true to his passion and love for skiing, for a short time, John obtained a job with Whistler Mountain. Every winter John would volunteer for the Whistler Mountain Safety Team. He proudly wore the yellow uniform, saving lives and improving the experience of the many visitors to Whistler Mountain. He will be sorely missed by all Whistler Blackcomb staff. Johnny was also a proud member of the Whistler Weasel Workers safety crew for many years, highlighted by earning a coveted spot on the 1992 Panorama Mountain FIS World Cup Safety team. Johnny established his painting business and named it Local Mountain Painting, a business that succeeded in serving the Whistler Valley. For decades, Johnny lived in the Creekside Court community where he cared for, watched over and helped every neighbour as family. His warm and kind heart will be missed by all who have ever known him. Johnny passed away peacefully in his sleep on November 30th, 2011 and is survived by his Aunt Sally Hoepfner and his siblings; Barbara Denham, Mike Belknap, Tyler Tilley, Glen Tilley, Colleen Rose and extended family and by his cats, Cleo and Caesar. He is also survived by his close friends Lisa Mason, Crispin Lipscomb, Neil Connolly, Curtis Christian and hundreds of countless others that he called family. His predeceased siblings were Anthony Tilley, Douglas Tilley and Dale Hand. A life memorial and celebration will be held on Jan 7th, 2012, at 5:00pm at Spruce Grove Field House, 7328 Kirkpatrick Way, Whistler, B.C. After we ask all his family and friends to meet at Dusty’s Bar and BBQ in the village, around 7:00pm and enjoy a drink or two in his honoured memory. We ask for all pictures and stories to be sent to cicidee@me.com, to be included in the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to “The Estate Of John Belknap” and mail to C/O Administrator Christine Denham 7709 Joffre Avenue, Burnaby, B.C. V5J3K7 or call 1 778 996 3949, email: cicidee@me.com for further information. Although John Leslie “Knobsy” Belknap will be truly missed by his family and friends, he would ask us all to take advantage of our time on Earth and on the Mountain. He would want us to be kind and caring with everyone in our lives and to stay true to ourselves.

Cheers to you, Johnny
