It is with deep sadness, that we announce the sudden passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend. Jerry passed away on Saturday morning, Dec. 24, 2011, at the New Waterford Consolidated Hospital with his loving family at his side.
Born in New Victoria, he was the son of the late Dennis and Molly (Ayre) Hennessy, and was a faithful member of the former St. Joseph’s Church, New Victoria, and more recently the Parish Church of St. Leonard, New Waterford.
As a young man Jerry worked in No. 18 mine, the pumping station in New Victoria, Seaboard power plant, Glace Bay and numerous other locations for Nova Scotia Power Corp., retiring after 30 years of service.
Jerry will mainly be remembered as a family man who truly enjoyed spending time with his wife ‘Phill’, their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed spending his summers in the garden, playing cribbage and other card games, playing his fiddle, fishing and his daily walks to Ned’s Hill with his loving K-9 companion Mylo. Jerry was a perfectionist at every task he preformed.
He will be sadly missed by his loving wife Felecitas, ‘Phill’ (MacNeil); daughters, Ann Head, New Waterford, Lois (Wayne) Gallant, Glace Bay, Karen Mossop, Edmonton; sons, Ronnie (Mary), Scotchtown, Gerald, Mira, Vernon, Windsor, Ont., James (Cathy), Mira, John (Monique) Scotchtown; brother, Dave, Greenwood, N.S.; sisters, Peg Seward, B.C., Delores McNeil, New Victoria; 26 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law Laura Hennessy; son-in-law, Mike MacLeod; nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by son, Kevin, daughter, Donna MacLeod, brother, Dennis, sisters, Alice, Frances ‘Fran’ and Mary ‘May’.
There was no visitation.Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral Mass officiated by Fr. Ray Huntley will be held 10 a.m. today (Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011) at the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mt. Carmel Ave. New Waterford. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, New Victoria, followed by a reception at the Carmel Center, all are welcome.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Jerry’s memory can be made to Nova Scotia Heart and Stroke Foundation.
