CRESS, Wayne Austin - 72, Kingston (formerly of Round Hill). It is with great sadness that the family announces the sudden passing of Wayne on Dec. 23, 2011 at home. He was the son of the late Carl and Mary (Le Cain). Wayne spent most of his career with the Department of National Defence at CFB Cornwallis as a firefighter retiring in 1988 due to a medical injury. Wayne took great pride in serving his community through volunteer efforts. He served as an Army Reservist, spent many years volunteering with the DVA unit at Soldiers Memorial Hospital in Middleton, worked for the Valley Care Line, and participated in the Community Assistance program for the RCMP Bridgetown detachment. Serving the Lord was important to Wayne and he displayed his devotion through active service in church committees and programs. He is survived by his wife of 4 years, Diane (Roach). He leaves behind his daughters, Lynn Saunders (John), Berwick and Susan Ritchie (Scott), Centrelea; granddaughters, Abby Bent, Alanna Saunders, Keirstin and Hilary Ritchie; and brother, Richard, Round Hill. Wayne also leaves behind a step family; Karen Roach, South Carolina, Calvin (Melinda) and Amber of Greenwood Square. Besides his parents, he is predeceased by his wife of 44 years, Shirley (Lowe), a four year old brother Freddie as well as an infant brother Joseph at birth. Cremation has taken place and a Memorial Service was held Thursday Dec. 29, 2011 at Trinity Pentecostal Church, 468 Central Ave.,Greenwood, a reception followed. Pastor Mitchell Lewis officiated. Interment in Round Hill Cemetery, Round Hill. Donations can be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association, Trinity Pentecostal Church or to the charity of one’s choosing. The family would like to say thank-you to all the emergency response personnel that attended that night. Your care and compassion at such a devastating time is greatly appreciated.
