NEWTON, Daniel Alfred - husband of Edna Mary (Chavarie) Newton of East Point Road, Napan, New Brunswick passed away on Saturday, December 24, 2011 at Miramichi Regional Hospital at the age of 68. Born in Dunnville, Ontario, he was the son of the late Cecil Lawrence Hague Newton and Mary (Docherty) Newton. He was a retired Correctional Supervisor and former Police Chief of Nackawic, as well as Newcastle. He was a former police officer in Middleton Nova Scotia, former president of the Association of Chiefs of Police, owner of Miramichi City Security Services and Captain Dan’s Boat Tours. Mr. Newton was also recently appointed as a coroner in Northumberland County. Besides his wife Edna, Daniel is survived by his son, Chris (Tracey) of Fredericton, 3 daughters, Wendy of Alberta, Suzanne of Alberta and Peggy of Riverview and 2 step-daughters, Stacey Carll (Mike) of Sussex and Roxanne Plourde (Jason) of Miramichi. As well, 4 brothers, Michael (Arline) of Dartmouth, NS, Peter (Charlene) of Bridgetown, NS, Robert of Lower Sackville and Tom (Caroline) of Bridgetown, NS and 4 sisters, Catherine Ramsay of Brantford, ON, Joan Allen (David) of Annapolis Royal, NS, Gladys Newton of Bridgetown, NS and Edith Newton (Eugene Organ) of Conception Bay South, NL. He is also survived by 4 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 step grandchild. Besides his parents, Dan is predeceased 1 brother, Isaac “Ian” Newton. Visitation was held Tuesday, December 27 and Wednesday, December 28 at Davidson’s Funeral Home. The funeral service was held on Thursday, December 29 at Davidson’s Funeral Home Chapel with Venerable Richard Steeves officiating. A reception followed the service in Davidson’s Reception Room. Interment will be in the spring in Pine Grove Cemetery. In Dan’s memory, donations may be made to the SPCA or to a memorial of one’s choice.
