HIGGINS, Ray Douglas – 63, Truro, passed away suddenly Thursday evening, December 29, 2011, at home as a result of heart complications. Born August 21, 1948, in Truro, he was the beloved son of Ruby (Van Buskirk) McLean, Truro, and the late Wallace Higgins. Ray loved all animals, but held a special place in his heart for his cat, Pearl, and horses. He trained horses and riders in Florida, Calgary and elsewhere and trained Equestrians who competed on the US Team. Along with his mother, Ray will be sadly missed and forever loved by his siblings, Paulette (Donald) Mattinson, Darlene (Ian) Conway, Birch Hill; Rod (Teresa) Higgins, Truro; several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Along with his father, he was predeceased by his step-fathers, Ronald Lynds and Charles McLean. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Ray’s family will receive friends from 2-2:45 p.m., followed by the funeral service at 3 p.m., both Sunday, January 1, 2012, Reverend Valerie Kingsbury officiating. Reception will follow. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Ray’s memory to SPCA or Heart and Stroke foundation of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
