HALFPENNY, E. JOAN - E. Joan Halfpenny, 92, of Lefurgey Residence and formerly of Jones St., Moncton, with her family at her side, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday evening, December 29, 2011. Born in Worthing, England, she was the daughter of the late Harry and Ethel (Beck) West. Joan came to Canada as a War Bride on the ship “Isle de France” in May 1946, was a retired hairdresser and long time member of St. John’s United Church. She enjoyed gardening, reading, was an avid tennis fan, enjoyed ocean views and beaches in England and the Maritime Provinces and spending time with her family. Joan will be sadly missed by her children, Susan Pugsley (George) of South Athol, NS, Dale Halfpenny (Helen) of Stilesville; grandchildren, Alan Halfpenny (Kelly), Lynn Halfpenny Edwards (Brent), David Pugsley (Lori), Karen Pugsley-Leger (Shawn) and Michael Pugsley; great grandchildren, Logan, Mya, Ewan, Aiden and Caleb; several nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Lee Halfpenny (1998); sisters and brothers, Vera (twin sister), May, Archie, Reginald and Bernie.
Visitation at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home, 1657 Mountain Road, Moncton (858-1995) on Monday from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. Funeral Service at Ferguson Knowles Funeral Home Chapel on Tuesday, January 3, 2012, 1:30 pm, Rev. Aaron Billard officiating. Reception in the Funeral Home Reception Centre following the service. Interment, Fair Haven Memorial Gardens.
