It is with great sadness that we the family announce the passing of Ross Broughm on Friday, Nov. 20, 2009, at the St. Martha’s Hospital, Antigonish.
Born in Lockport, he was the son of the late Ross A. Sr. and Ruby (Burke) Broughm.
He was a prominent guitarist who was featured on The Don Messer Show & Sing-a-long Jubilee in 1963. He worked all over Canada in music and was awarded the Canadian guitarist of the year in Montreal, Que. in 1976.
Moving to Antigonish 30 years ago, he retired from Bragg Communications where he worked for over 20 years entertaining the public with his talents. He went on to write and play for local venues. He had been volunteering to play in the local retirement homes at community events.
He is survived by his loving wife, Rosena (Benoit); his four children, Sharon Deveau, Merle (Jeff) Keeble, Barbara Broughm, Kevin (Leslie) Broughm; the mother of his children, Beulah Myers; and his beloved dog, Starr. He is also survived by brothers, Robert (Shirley), Richard (Helen); five brothers-in-law and three sisters-in-law, as well as his 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brothers, Arnold, Arthur, Harley, and sister, Evangeline Matthews.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 24 at the Full Gospel Pentecostal Assembly Church, Antigonish, with Rev. Sheldon Chant, Rev. Harvey Martell and Rev. Bob Innis co-officiating.
Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or St. Martha’s Veterans Ward, Antigonish.
