DEMERCHANT, E. DOUG - 1917-2011 - The death of Elmer Douglas DeMerchant of Stickney occurred on Saturday, December 31, 2011 at the Ridgewood Veterans Wing, Saint John. Born February 28, 1917 in Piercemont, NB he was the son of the late Diten and Almira DeMerchant. Doug is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Rita (nee Lawrence); four children, Carolyn Ames (David Mitchell), Alfreda Clark (David), Susan Crawford (David) and Diten DeMerchant (Margaret); nine grandchildren, Karen Foster, Rebecca Lagacé, Elizabeth Ames, Joshua and Sandy Clark, Barbara and Christopher Crawford, Jennifer Hartin and Michael DeMerchant; three great grandchildren, Marc-André, Joseph and Reid; two sisters in law, Glendola and Madeline DeMerchant and many nieces, nephews and extended family. He was predeceased by his parents, siblings, Lewis, Morris, Milford, Edith, Frances and Bertha.
Visitation will be held from L.R. Giberson Funeral Directors, 207 Burnham Rd. Florenceville-Bristol on Tuesday, January 3, 2012 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Royal Canadian Legion Branch # 37 will hold a tribute service at 6:45 pm. A funeral service will be held Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 12:00 noon from the L.R. Giberson Funeral Chapel. Pastors Brian Bradley and Darryl Crain will officiate. Interment will be in the Bristol Community Cemetery at a later date.
