It is with heavy hearts that we, the family, announce the passing of Elizabeth ‘Betty’ White on Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Cyril and Cecelia (MacIntyre) White.
She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She was a kind, fun loving person who had a soft spot for all animals. Besides loving and caring for her own cats, she was also involved with a couple of societies for helping animals. Betty was also a sports fan.
Betty worked for many years at a bank in Toronto, then in Halifax with Nabisco, Wal-Mart and a call centre before returning home to Glace Bay where she was employed with Stream Call Centre. She expressed many times how much she enjoyed her job there as well as all her co-workers.
Betty is survived by her brothers, Cyril, Mervin (Peggy MacInnis), both of Halifax; Joe, Sydney; Robert (Theresa Burke), Mira Gut as well as many nephews.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by brothers, Kelvin, Jimmy and Brendon.
Cremation has taken place and, in keeping with Betty’s wishes, there will be no visitation or funeral service. A private family burial will take place at Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Betty’s family would like to extend their thanks to all family and friends who were there for Betty. A special thank you to veterinarian Dr. Darren Low and James Gouthrow, Reserve Mines. Also, the family express their gratitude to Tower Road Fire Department, as well as the Birch Grove, Donkin, Port Morien and Glace Bay Fire departments for their efforts and assistance.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Betty’s memory to the ABAS Society - C.B. Animal band-Aid Sanctuary, Catalone, NS, B1C 2E6
