It is with great sadness that we, the family, announce the passing of Gary Albert Burke of Toronto, formerly of Sydney, on Jan. 3, 2012.
Born on July 22, 1940, Gary was the son of the late Harold and Phyllis (Libbey) Burke.
Gary was a plumber by trade and a member of the U.A. local 682 Sydney. He worked in commercial and industrial plumbing in the Sydney area, retiring in 2001 from the maintenance staff at the Canadian Coast Guard College. Gary enjoyed skating and curling and was an avid hockey fan.
Gary is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda (Billard) Burke; his loving daughter, Stacey (Greg) Cummings; grandson, Jordan Cummings and granddaughter, Payton Cummings. He is also survived by one sister, Judy Ross of Halifax.
Besides his parents, Gary was predeceased by a sister, Nancy Andrews and nephew, Bruce Ross.
Cremation has taken place in Toronto. Funeral services will be held in Cape Breton at a later date.
