Gar Williams, 61, of Mahon Street, New Waterford, passed away in his sleep on Wednesday, Jan. 11, 2012, at the New Waterford Hospital.
Born in New Waterford, Gar was the son of the late James and Mary Ann (McKinnon) Williams.
He was a member of the former St. Agnes Church. Gar loved the ocean and loved swimming. He would make 10 to 15 trips a day to the water even in the winter; sometimes just to sit on the bank and enjoy the view with his dog. Gar will be sadly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his siblings, Raymond, Peter (Betty), both of Ontario, Michael of Montreal, Shirley (Cecil), Neasie (Raymond), Gordon (Irma), John (Donna) and Lilly, all in Cape Breton. Gar will be sadly missed by his many nieces, nephews, whom he loved dearly and best friends, Anna and Connie McSween.
Gar was predeceased by six brothers and three sisters.
Special thanks to the 2nd floor nurses who were so kind to Gar and also to Dr. Steve Farrell, Dr. Ann Frances D’Intino and palliative care.
There will be no visitation; cremation has taken place under the direction of the V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. The funeral mass will be celebrated on Monday morning at 10 a.m. in St. Leonard’s Church. Fr Victor Ozoufuanya and Deacon Leo Penny officiating. Interment to follow in St. Agnes Cemetery.
All are invited to join the family for a reception at St. Leonard’s Hall on Convent Street.
