Morine, Herman Blake, 91 of Avonport, Kings Co. passed away peacefully Monday, January 02, 2012 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville, with his wife & three of his sons by his side. Born, Feb. 10, 1920 in Wallbrook, he was the 7th of 13 children of the late Archibald & Viola (McDow) Morine. Herman served as a Gunner in the Second World War from Sept. 1942 to Feb. 1946 and saw active duty in Continental Europe, The United Kingdom and the Central Mediterranean Area. For his service he received the following medals; the 1939-45 Star; Italy Star; France-Germany Star; Defence Medal; the Canadian Volunteer Service Medal and Clasp and Dutch Medal. He worked at Haliburton farms as well as a custodian at L.E. Shaw School and as a general maintenance person for the former Kings County School Board. Herman also loved gardening and growing vegetables at his home in Avonport and spending a lot of time with his dog, “Sparky”. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jean Nancy (Myles); 6 sons; Peter (Margaret), Newcombville; Eric, Avonport; Douglas (Joyce), Aylesford; Jerry (Catherine), Burlington; Keith, Avonport; Chris (Susan), New Minas; 8 grandchildren, Brent (Debbie), Canaan; Matthew (Charity), Denver, Colorado; Ian, Port Williams; Andrew (Nikki), Bridgewater; Nikki-Sue, Port Williams; Luke (Ashley), Ottawa; Amos, Centreville; Briana, Greenwich; 5 great grandchildren; other remaining family members include sister-in-laws, Eva & Jean; several nieces & nephews. Herman was the last surviving member of his family. He was predeceased by brothers, Earl, Keith, Murray, Ivan, Claude and Jack; sisters, Flossie, Alvery, Jordey, Greta Fleet, Beulah Buchanan, Phyllis Taylor and Ruth Jakeman. No visitation by family request. A funeral service followed by a reception was held 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 6, 2012 in the Annapolis Valley Funeral Home & Cremation Centre, 34 Coldbrook Village Park Dr (Exit 14) Coldbrook. Rev. Gail Whalen – Dunn officiating. Interment in the Lower Horton Cemetery, Grand Pre. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Herman may be made to the Valley Regional Hospital, Heart & Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia; Nova Scotia Lung Association , Avonport Baptist Church or to a charity of choice.
