Peter Smith

SMITH, PETER KAI - Peter Kai Smith, 67, of Riverview, NB, and formerly of Moncton, NB, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 18, 2012 at Protem Health Services surrounded by family. Peter was born in Moncton on April 12, 1944, the son of the late Lloyd and Rita (Tercier) Smith. Peter was a retired employer of CN having worked in various Dept. for over 30 years. Peter enjoyed so much about life – particularly his family, his many great friends, and the great outdoors. Throughout his life, he enjoyed curling, skiing, sailing, hunting, his son’s basketball, canoeing and telling lengthy stories. Salmon fishing and getting on the river was very special to him. Nothing surpassed getting up to the Eskape on the Northwest Miramichi and “dropping a line”. Peter was a member of the Riverview Volunteer Firefighters for ten years, CN Pensioners Assoc., Atlantic Salmon Fishing Guide and actively involved with Fish Friends. He will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Mae, of 41 years. Peter is survived by his daughter Karen Loundon (Robert) of Kailua-Kona Hawaii, son Stephen of Banff, AB, twin sister Pat O’Toole (John) of Lower Sackville, NS, and nephews Mark (Sherry) O’Toole (Matthew and Madalyn) of Calgary, AB, and Keith O’Toole of Lower Sackville, NS. Peter is also survived by his very special granddaughter Avalon.
The family will be receiving friends and visitors at Cobb’s Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 330 Whitepine Road, Riverview (869-2007) on Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, with a time to pray and share memories to take place at 8:30 PM. The funeral service will be held from Cobb’s Funeral Home Memorial Chapel on Monday, January 23, at 1 PM with Father Phil Mulligan officiating. The interment will follow at the Wesleyan Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, Friends of the Moncton Hospital, or a memorial of the donor’s choice would be greatly appreciated by the family.
