PEARL ETHEL MEAD (nee: CHANT) born June 6, 1927 at the family farm home of her parents Mark and Katherine Chant near Mitchellton, passed away in Moose Jaw on January 6, 2012. She attended elementary school at Garrett and received her high school education at Central Collegiate in Moose Jaw. She was a telephone operator with Government Telephones (now SaskTel). In 1946 she married W. R. Finlay (Ray) of Cardross and the couple had a son, Robert who took over the family farm operation in March of 1971 after Ray passed away. Pearl later moved to Moose Jaw where she worked at Knowles Motel. In 1973 Pearl started employment with the Canadian Forces Base as a telephone operator and one year later became Supervisor. She worked for fifteen years at C.F.B. On June 27, 1974 Pearl married John (Glyn) Mead in Trinity United Church, Moose Jaw. When Pearl was living on the farm she helped with summer classes in Cardross and as a Sunday School Teacher in Mitchellton. After retiring she helped on many committees, was a council member for several years when she represented Trinity and Presbytery conferences. Pearl and Glyn enjoyed vacationing with their motor home traveling throughout Canada, United States and Mexico. Pearl was very talented at sewing and knitting and enjoyed her garden, flowers and trees. She enjoyed her k-9 companions: Goldy, Bear, Tiger and Bronnie and her feline friends: Garfield, Mighty Mouse and Devil #1. On May 21, 1997 Pearl and Glyn moved back to the farm she loved. Predeceased by her parents Mark and Katherine Chant, brothers: Ted Chant and Harry Chant (and his wife, Florence). Pearl is survived by her loving husband Glyn, son Robert Finlay; brother: Richard (Eileen) Chant and Delbert (Flora) Chant; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. A Service of Remembrance will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Trinity United Church, 277 Iroquois St. W. Pastor Bill Thomson will officiate. Private family memorialization will take at Sunset Cemetery at a later time. For those so wishing, memorial donations may be made to Trinity United Church.
