It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Bernadette Mary Marks, 92, of Sydney Mines, on Sunday, Jan. 22, 2012, at the Northside General Hospital.
Born in Sydney Mines, July 9, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Bernard and Anna (MacGregor) Tobin.
Bernadette was a devout Roman Catholic and a member of Immaculate Conception parish.
Bernadette enjoyed bingo, a good game of cards, and the company of family and friends. During the last four years of her life she revelled in the company of her cherished cat whom she simply named ‘Pussy’. His presence brought her great comfort, companionship and lots of smiles and laughs during a difficult time in her life.
She is survived by her daughter, Carmelita MacRae (Joe); sons, Gerald (Medina) and Lowell, all of Sydney Mines. She is also survived by her sister, Marie, Ontario; and brother, Sidney, Sydney Mines. Also surviving are grandchildren, Mary MacRae (Gary) and great-granddaughter, Jamie; Lisa MacRae (RJ) and great-grandchildren, Blaire, Andy and Kayla; Chris Young (Kerry) and great-granddaughter, Kennedy; and Chris Marks (Mary) and great-grandson, Jacob. She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews.
Besides her parents, Bernadette was predeceased by her husband, Samuel, son, Bernard in infancy, her sister, Corena Moriarity, brother, William and a number of brothers and sisters-in-law.
The family would like to thank Dr. Patrick O’Grady for his care over the years, VON and Northside Homemakers for their care and assistance to Ma over the last few years. We would also like to thank the nursing staff of 2nd Floor West at the Northside General Hospital for their care, compassion and kindness to Ma over the final two weeks of her life.
