BOWER, Captain Delbert “Dub” Frederick, 70, Bridgewater, formerly of Sandy Point, Shelburne County, passed away Sunday, January 22, 2012, after fighting a short battle with cancer. Born in Jordan Bay, he was a son of Maurice and the late Prenetta (Locke) Bower. He was a fisherman all his working life prior to retiring and moving to Bridgewater to be closer to his children and grandchildren. He was an avid hunter and sport fisherman, who especially enjoyed his trips back to camp with his buddies. Delbert was a dedicated Montreal Canadiens and Blue Jays fan. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Eleanor (Smith) Bower; two children, son, Chris (Tonya) Bower, Timberlea; and daughter, Karen (Burke) Naugler, Bridgewater; three grandchildren, Gabrielle, Hailee, and Andrew; sisters, Shirley (Carl) Bower; Irene Smith; Gloria (Blair) Lohnes; Geraldine (Gary) Dedrick, and Sheila (Louis) Jacquard; sisters-in-law, Cindy (Philip) Acker, and Brenda (Kevin) Hemeon; numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by niece, Tanya Nickerson, father-in-law, Carroll Smith and mother-in-law, Dorothy Smith. A memorial service was held on Thursday, January 26 with Reverend Cindy Dunnett and Rev. Ivan Norton officiating. Interment was in Jordan Bay Cemetery. Donations may be made to the VON or Palliative Care. The family would like to thank the VON and Palliative Care.
