Barbara Wipond

WIPOND (NEE PARKS), BARBARA ANN CARLIND - Barbara Ann Carlind Wipond (nee Parks), beloved wife of Nicholas for 57 years passed away suddenly on January 4, 2012 in Ethiopia on their last great adventure together. Barbara was born in Ottawa, Ontario on August 11, 1932, the youngest child of Major Cecil and Pearl Parks. It was in that city where she met Nicholas, who later became her husband. Barb and Nick spent their early years together in Montreal, PQ, Fredericton, NB, Flint, Michigan and Burlington, Vermont, before moving with their young children to Peterborough, Ontario. They left Fredericton in 1963. She spent most of her working life as an executive and legal secretary, eventually moving to British Columbia and the United Arab Emirates, before retiring with Nicholas in Peachland, B.C. The years lived in Fredericton, where she gave birth to her three children and put Nicholas through UNB, were the most cherished and memorable in her life. However, in her own words left behind, “my most important job was being a mother and wife, which shall continue forever.” She was cheerful, playful and funny, an affectionate and supportive listener, quick to help others, a dependable fishing partner, and a passionate cook of both gourmet delights and the most decadently delicious sweets. Her kindness and warmth always endeared her to young and old alike, and to people from all walks of life wherever she went. She leaves behind her grieving husband and three children, Kevin Michael married to Shauna nee Wilson, Karen Janet and her partner Nick Cottam, and Robert Nicholas, along with Kevin and Shauna’s three children Marley, Ethan, and Michaela, all of whom she described as “the true meaning of my life.” She was pre-deceased by her brothers, Hilliard, Norman (Joe), and Clare, and her sisters Eleanor and Shirley. She is survived by her brother Reginald and sister-in-law Peggy, wife of the late Hilliard Parks. “To our beautiful wife, mother, grandmother and sister, you filled us up with your enormous love, and we give it back eternally.”
Services are at First Memorial Funeral Home in Kelowna, BC on February 4, 2012 at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, kindly make donations to Barbara’s favorite charity, the Salvation Army. Arrangements entrusted with First Memorial Funeral Services, Kelowna, B.C. 250-762-2299
