It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Lorraine Anne Burke, 59, of Lingan on Jan. 30, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in New Waterford, she was a daughter of the late Samuel and Catherine (Getto) Marchesin.
Lorraine was a member of the former St. Joseph Church, Lingan, currently the Parish Church of St. Leonard.
In her younger years she loved to play darts with her husband, Bernie. Lorraine dearly loved her two pets, Nibbles and Libby.
Surviving are her husband, Bernie; daughters, Cathy Burke (Kenny), Gardiner Mines, Cheryl Burke, Kitchener, Ont.; sons, Brandon Burke, Kitchener, Ont., Bernard Burke (Kelly), New Victoria; brother, Lloyd Marchesin, New Waterford; sisters, Cecilia ‘Teady’ Liebeck, Rose Head (Tom), both of New Waterford, Madonna Marchesin, Sydney; grandchildren, whom she loved dearly, Bradley, Dillen, Dean and Lindsey, Emily and Nicholas; greatnephew, Draiden.
Lorraine was predeceased by brothers, Donald, Joseph and Gary.
She was a wonderful mother, wife, grandmother and sister and will be greatly missed by all her relatives and friends.
There will be no visitation. Cremation has taken place under the care and direction of V.J. McGillivray Funeral Home, 380 Smith St., New Waterford. A funeral mass of celebration will be held Friday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. in the Parish Church of St. Leonard, Mount Carmel Avenue with Fr. Ray Huntley officiating. A luncheon will follow at Lingan hall.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lung Association or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
