SHAND, James “Barney” Roy, 88, Upper East Green Harbour, passed away at home on Sunday, February 5, 2012. Born in Bear Point he was a son of the late Roy and Cassie (Veinot) Shand. Barney was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Barney worked and was well known at numerous fish plants in the area. He was famous for the quality of his home-knit bait bags. He enjoyed working in the woods and having his wood pile and woodhouse full of wood was his biggest pride. He enjoyed the road trips with his close friends over the years. Barney was always willing to help others in need and enjoyed being asked. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, the former Gladys Wamback; sons, Charles (Betsy), Woodlawn Drive; Martin (Tina), East Jordan; daughter, Tanya (Phillip), Jordan Falls; brothers, Lawrence, Bear Point; Gerald (Audrey), Cold Lake, Alta; grandchildren, Matthew, Maureen, Timothy, Trent, Tanya, Malcolm, Cassie; great grandchildren, Austin, Annabelle, Abigail; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by daughter, Trudy Holmes; brothers, Sumner, John, Lorraine; sisters, Marguerite, Annie, Nora, Mildred, Geraldine, Laura and Pauline. Cremation took place under the direction of H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Home, Shelburne. A memorial service was held on Wednesday, February 8 in H.M. Huskilson’s Funeral Chapel with Reverend Joanne McFadden officiating. Burial at a later date. Memorial donations may be made to the N.S. Lung Association or charity of choice.
