GAUDET, Rev. Chancellor Fr. Ghislain of Prince Albert, SK passed away on February 7, 2012 in Prince Albert, SK. At the age of 77 years. He was born to Hector and Armandine Gaudet in St Isidore de Bellevue, SK on Oct. 2, 1934. Following his schooling in St Isidore de Bellevue, he attended College Mathieu at Gravelbourg, SK and Theology Studies at St. Boniface Seminary. He received the following degrees: B.A., B.Th. and M.D.C. in Ottawa and L.D.C. at St. Paul. He spoke both French and English and had studied at St. Paul University in Ottawa for 2 years in Canon Law. Following his ordination on June 29, 1961 in St Isidore de Bellevue, SK, he was a Professor at Notre Dame College, from August 17, 1961 to 1962; ministered at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, January 1962 to February1963; was the Official Chaplain at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary, February1, 1963 to August 1988; Ministered at the Prince Albert Correctional Centre, September 1963; served temporarily at St. Michael, Prince Albert, February 1962 to June 1962; was chaplain at the Daughters of Providence Institute, August 30, 1967 to August 1968; was also Chaplain at the Academy of the Sisters of Presentation of Mary; was Chaplain of the Orphanage August 27, 1968 to its closure in 1973; was Vice-Chancellor, July 5, 1989; was Chancellor of the diocese with delegated power for marriage cases, July 3, 1990 to 2012; was Judicial Vicar (officialis), July 3, 1990 and was Vicar General of the diocese, March 12, 1991 to 2010. Fr. Ghislain’s family was very dear to him. He enjoyed all family gatherings and his family in turn enjoyed his witty and joking personality. He will be greatly missed. Left to mourn his passing and cherish his memory, are Bishop Thévenot, his fellow priests and his diocesan family; his sister, Rolande Gaudet; five sisters-in-law, Lydia Gaudet, Yvette Gaudet, Sylvianne Gaudet, Thérèse Gaudet and Camilla Gaudet; numerous nieces, nephews and special friends, Arsèneand Fern Gareau. He was predeceased by his brothers, sisters, brothers-inlaw and sisters-in-law, Marie-Ange, 1994 (Pierre Gareau, 1970 and Adrien Hamel, 1994); Jean-Camille Gaudet, 2005; Anida Deault, 2008 (Edouard Deault, 2011); Andréas Gaudet, 1922; Henri Gaudet, 1991; Noëlla Jobin, 2000 (Alphonse Jobin, 2008); Alain Gaudet, 2007; Ovide Gaudet, 2010 (Laurianne, 1990); Roger Gaudet 2010 (brother-in-law); Emile Gaudet, 1997 and Alcide Gaudet, 1991. There will be Public Visitation at Sacred Heart Cathedral, 1401 - 4th Ave. West, Prince Albert, SK on Sunday, February 12, 2012 from 2:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. Prayer Vigil will be held Sunday, February 12, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. presided by Bishop Emeritus Blaise Morand. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Most Rev. Albert Thévenot, Bishop of Prince Albert on Monday, February 13, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Both Services will be held at Sacred Heart Cathedral. Interment will follow in the Priests’ Circle, Roman Catholic Section of South Hill Cemetery, Prince Albert, SK.
