Margaret ‘Mongie’ Gillis passed away Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital.
Born in Glace Bay, she was the daughter of the late Jack and Margaret (MacLeod) Pineau.
Mongie loved to get dressed up and go dancing. She was a very talented seamstress who loved to sew for her family. She enjoyed walking with her friends, especially Kate. She was a lady who truly loved animals.
She will be sadly missed by her daughter, Trudy Binder (the late Walter), Calgary; son, Jack (Laurie) Ettinger, Glace Bay; sister, Catherine ‘Duddie’ Ryan (the late Vince); and sister-in-law, Leona (Hank) Redmond, Sydney. She also leaves behind her precious grandchildren, Tamalah (Mark) Ettinger-Comer, Glace Bay, Jonathan (Aselin Debison) Ettinger, Digby, Fletcher (Julie) MacDonald, Calgary, Nikolas Binder, Calgary, Jaclyn Binder, Calgary, Aliesje (Jay) Macinnis and her great-grandchildren, Nathaniel, Etienne, Emeric, Carlyn Blayne, Keagan and Connor.
Besides her parents she was predeceased by her husband, Coady Gillis.
Visitation for Margaret was held Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, from 2-4 p.m. in Patten Funeral Home, 71 Union St., Glace Bay. Interment will follow in Forest Haven Memorial Gardens at a later date. A reception for family and friends will be held following the visitation in the Patten Memorial Reception Room.
Memorial donations may be made to the SPCA or your local animal shelter.
