Malcom MacCallum

MACCALLUM, MALCOLM (HARROP) - 1923 - 2012 - Malcolm (Mac) MacCallum 88, of Moncton passed away on Thursday, February 9, 2012 at the Moncton Hospital after a two month illness. Born in Gunningsville on July 7, 1923 son of the late Charles and late Luretta (Harrop) MacCallum. He was a veteran of World War II, serving as a Corporal in the Royal Canadian Signal Corps from 1942-1946 in England and Holland. He received a special medal from Holland for staying after the war ended and helping to re-establish their communications systems. Mac will be sadly missed by his wife of 59 years, Marcia (Wilson); his two sons Beverly (Char) and Graham (Becky) of Olathe, Kans, and his daughter Gayden, Moncton, brothers Alexander (Sandy) Hamilton, ON, Allan (Kay) and George (Eileen) of Moncton; four grandchildren Michelle, Scott (Stephanie), Lauren and Luke; three great-grandchildren, Rhianna, Aidan and Ashlynne; a god-daughter Kathy Sessamen of Saint John, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter Carmen, his brother Archie, killed in action while serving in Holland, December 5, 1944, brothers Neil and Joel, four sisters, Esther, Lois, Maryellen and Lucy. Mac was a long time member of the Wesleyan church and served as a board member, choir member, Sunday School Supt. and teacher. Mac retired from CNCP telecommunications after 34 years of service. During those years he worked as a lineman, installer and wirechief in various areas of the Maritime Provinces and also in Ontario and Quebec. For ten years he worked in the Saint John office before being transferred to Moncton in 1962. He had the ability to construct, remodel and repair almost anything, therefore had very few idle moments. Summers were spent in his gardens, in the cottage at Beulah Campground or camping with family. Mac and Marcia twice visited the cemetery in Holland where Archie was buried, visited all of the 48 states with the exception of two, England, Scotland, Germany and Switzerland.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 13 at the Moncton Wesleyan Church from 1:00 – 2:00 pm. Funeral service commencing at 2:00 pm with Dr. L. D. Buckingham officiating. A reception will follow in the atrium. Donations in Mac’s memory may be made to Kingswood University, (Bethany Bible College), Building Fund of the Moncton Wesleyan Church or the charity of one’s choice.
