It is with heavy hearts that the family of Marie Marinelli announces her passing at home, with her family by her side, after a brief illness on Feb. 10, 2012.
Born in North Sydney on Aug. 16, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Elizabeth (Fricker) Gale.
In her early years Marie was employed with the British Canadian Co-op in North Sydney. Later in life she was the owner/operator of St. Ann’s Motel and Marie’s Diner in South Haven for 20 years. During this time she formed many cherished friendships with the local population and tourists alike.
An avid bowler in earlier years, she enjoyed yearly tournaments and the camaraderie of fellow bowlers. She loved to fish with her father while vacationing in River Bennett, and occasionally she would accompany him during hunting season. She spent many hours knitting sweaters, socks and crocheting afghans for her children and grandchildren. She took great pride in making bread and showing family members and others her fine-tuned recipe. Each morning, whether she was at home or in Beechmont, she enjoyed reading the newspaper and watching the birds and wildlife.
She will be sadly missed by daughters, Theresa (Adam) Forsyth, Beechmont, Carol (Curt) Taylor and Laurie (Russell) MacNeil, Beaver Bank, N.S.; sons, Louis (Brenda), Sheldon (Lynn) and Rodney (Lorraine), all of Sydney Mines; her loving grandchildren, Albert, Donna, Jason, Jeffery, Christopher, Nicholas, Andrea, Amy, Kyle, Beth, Erin, Kristen, Christina, Megan; nine great-grandchildren; and her siblings, Goldie Carter, Beaver Bank, and Dennis Gale, Glace Bay. Also surviving are many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 56 years, Louis in 2001 and daughter, Yvonne, sister, Greta Moore and brothers, George ‘Jigger,’ Eric ‘Turk,’ John and Elmer ‘Ick.’
Visitation for Marie Marinelli will be held in the J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, Sunday, Feb. 12, 2012, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Monday, Feb. 13 at 10 a.m. in St. Puis X Church, Sydney Mines, with Rev. Thomas John officiating.
