Emerilda 'Millie' Kirrane

It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the death of our beloved mother, Millie, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, on Feb. 10, 2012.
Born in Bras d’Or, N.S., she was the daughter of the late Joseph and Lillian (Laffin) Hawkins.
Millie was a faithful member of St. Joseph’s parish.
Millie was a past auxiliary member, Royal Canadian Legion branch 83, Florence, and the Bras d’Or Seniors and Pensioners Club
Millie will be sadly missed by her family and friends. She leaves to mourn, her sons, Pius (Linda) Kirrane, Fitchburg Mass., and Joseph (Laurel Lee) Kirrane, Stafford Va.; as well her daughters, Lillian (John) Northen, Bras d’Or, and Mary Kirrane, Halifax. Millie was the proud grandmother of Frank (Nicole) Kirrane, Edward (Jessica Legay) Kirrane, Elizabeth (Andy) Van Hazinga and Katie Kirrane (Anthony Giza), Fitchburg Mass.; Edward (Jennifer Cole), Patrick and Danielle Kirrane, Stafford, Va.; Christopher (April) MacKinnon, Edmonton, and Michelle (Kevin Guyomard) Mackinnon, Sydney; and great-grandmother of Grace, Thomas, Abigail, John, Evan and Caitlin Kirrane; Adeline and William Van Hazinga, Fitchburg, Mass.; Dylan and Madison MacKinnon, Edmonton, and Ella and Airanna MacKinnon, Sydney. Ella and Airanna will always remember their great-grandmother “Boo Nana.” Millie is also survived by her brothers, Richard and Joseph Hawkins. Millie also leaves to mourn her dear friend, Shirley Anne Snow.
Mille was predeceased by her loving husband, Frank, a daughter, Susan and son, Francis X in infancy as well as her brother, Peter and sisters, Martha ‘Bessie’ and Shirley.
Visitation for Millie Kirrane will be held in the J. M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Monday, Feb. 13, 2012, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral mass will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in St. Joseph’s Church, Bras d’Or with Rev. Peter MacLeod officiating. A burial In St. Joseph’s cemetery will take place at a later date.
