FITCH, SHAWN - It is with deep regret and sadness that the family of Shawn Allan Fitch announces his passing on February 10th, 2012, at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital. He died of complications following treatment of cancer. Shawn was born on a beautiful sunny morning on October 28th, 1959 in Moncton, New Brunswick. Shawn was the beloved son of Dolores Shirley (Comeau) Fitch and the late Kenneth Douglas Burns Fitch, loving and devoted father of Chelsey, Cameron, Benjamin and Zachary, grandfather of Jacob Allen, beautiful brother of Leanne Fitch (Sara McElman) and Sheree Fitch (Gilles Plante), uncle to Jordan and Dustin McCormack. He leaves behind a large family of cousins, aunts and uncles. Shawn is also survived by his soul mate and life partner Sue Lawrence who has been by his side in days of health and during long months of sickness; a true blessing in Shawn’s life and in the family circle. A lover of the outdoors and gardening, an accomplished stained glass artist, actor, animal-lover, rugby player, brown belt in karate, amateur athletics coach, Shawn lived and worked in Fredericton most of his life. For twenty-eight years, he worked side by side with his father Ken as vice-president and then president of Canadian Security and Consultants Limited. He was also Loss Prevention Officer with the New Brunswick Liquor Commission. A friend to so many, his beautiful eyes, ever- present, hearty laughter, huge soul are irreplaceable. Shawn’s untimely passing and death leaves a deep hole in the lives of us all.
The visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Tuesday, February, 14th, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm. The Memorial Service will be held at Christ Church Cathedral on Wednesday, February 15th, at 2:00 pm. Rev. Canon John Cathcart will officiate with Rev. T. A. Smith assisting. A wake to celebrate Shawn’s life will take place at a later date. Family has asked donations be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or local charity of choice.
