We sadly announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Maman on Friday, Feb. 10, 2012, at the Sacred Heart Community Health Centre, Chéticamp.
Born in Chéticamp, Jan. 19, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Amédée Boudreau and Justile Poirier.
Maman spent her entire life devoted to her family and to her community. She felt blessed to have the love of her siblings followed by a large family of her own during her 53 year marriage to Placide. Her greatest pride was her family and she was able to express those words in her last days to her remaining seven children. Maman was a devoted Christian and member of Paroisse Saint-Pierre and sang in the church and community choirs for as long as her health permitted her to. She was a member of Le Club des Retraités de Chéticamp and Les Dames de Sainte-Anne. She was an avid supporter of our community radio station CKJM, as well as Le Conseil des arts de Chéticamp, especially La Swing du Suête when her granddaughter Natalie was part of the troupe.
Proud of her Acadian heritage, she spent many years on various committees and often participated in provincial forums with l’Association des acadiennes de la N.-É., la Fédération acadienne de la N.-É. and La Société Saint-Pierre. Maman was also a wonderful cook, enjoyed her weekly Lexicon puzzle and her time spent at her hooking frame. There will never be another “suête” without us thinking of how much she disliked them.
Her love of fiddle music was never as evident as when she was able to listen to her grandchildren Leanne and Brent play at the local Doryman. To see the tradition continue in the family was a source of great joy and pride to her. To the doctors and nursing staff of Le Centre de santé communautaire Sacré-Coeur, your kindness and compassion for our Maman will never be forgotten.
We know that she is now in a special place in heaven, reunited with our beloved younger sister Denise, our father Placide, her parents and her Boudreau siblings. She was at peace and ready for her next journey.
She is survived by her children, Gaston (Claire), Sydney Mines, Yvon (Kay), North Sydney, Patrice, Halifax, André (Hélena), Chéticamp, Anna (Scottie) MacDougall, Dartmouth, Lise (Art) Richardson, Lisette (Maurice) Bourgeois, both of Chéticamp; and son-in-law, Frank Richardson, Sydney. She is also survived by brothers, Hector (Shirley), Winnipeg, and Leo (Jane), Ottawa; and sisters, Elizabeth Bourgeois, Mathilda Boudreau, Dora (Clifford) Aucoin and Laurette (Semi-John) Poirier, all of Chéticamp. She was a loving grandmother to Leanne, Brent, Alan, Randall, Amy, Nicole, Kayla, Natalie, Taylor and step-grandmother to Jimmy, Joanne and Matthew and a loving aunt to all her nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by her husband, Placide, son, Roger (in infancy), daughter, Denise (Richardson), brothers, Joseph and Edmond, sisters, Agnes, Laurette and Mathilda.
Visitation will take place at Chéticamp Funeral Home, Chéticamp today, Feb. 13, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Funeral mass to celebrate her life will take place at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 14 at Église Saint-Pierre with Père Daniel Deveau officiating. A reception will follow at the Acadian Centre, Chéticamp.
