KEARNEY, WILLIAM JOSEPH, Q.C. - With sadness, the family of William (Bill) Joseph Kearney announces his passing on Saturday, February 11, 2012 at the Dr. Everett Chalmers Hospital in Fredericton. He died peacefully in the pre-dawn hours after a prolonged illness. Bill, son of the late Hugh and Agnes (Doohan) Kearney, was born in 1933, in Minto, New Brunswick. He was brother to the late John Kearney, the late Eleanor Grant, Joan Williams of Chatham and Tom Kearney of Grand Lake. He is survived by children Peter Kearney (and spouse Susan) of Newmarket, Ontario, Jane Ritchie (and spouse Warren) of Rochester, Michigan and Margaret Green (and spouse Vincent) of Aurora, Ontario. He leaves behind his grandchildren; Connor and Meghan Kearney, Laura and Adam Ritchie, Alison and Spencer Green. Bill graduated from Saint Thomas University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Law degree from Dalhousie University. He had a lifelong appreciation of literature and was always interested in a spirited discussion in the nuances of vocabulary. He was an avid vocalist and took pleasure from his long association with the St Dunstan’s Choir and the River Valley Chorus. Bill had a strong sense of religious faith and he dedicated considerable effort to preserve it. He enjoyed passed summers with the family at Grand Lake and in recent years relaxing during summer evenings attending to the fortunes of the Toronto Blue Jays on the television. In winter, he remained an avid follower of the Saint Thomas University hockey program, even into this season from his hospital bed.
Visitation will be held at McAdam’s Funeral Home on Friday, February 17th, 2012, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm. The funeral mass will be held at St. Dunstan’s Catholic Church on Saturday, February 18th, 2012 at 2:00 pm. with Rev. Bill Brennan presiding. Interment will be held in Hermitage Cemetery at a later date. For those who wish, memorial tributes may be made to the St Dunstan’s Choir or the River Valley Chorus.
