Mary Alberta Brady

HALIFAX – Mary Alberta Brady – 96.
Alberta was born in 1915, in Elnora, Alberta to Melborne and Nellie (Hiltz) Reid.
She lived several places with her family until she met and married John “Jack” Brady in 1940 and lived in Woodside. Alberta and Jack moved to Halifax where they lived for over 10 years before eventually moving to New Glasgow. Jack died in 1980. Alberta was well known for her cooking and entertaining. There were many fabulous meals served in that large dining room in Woodside and many house guests who were very well cared for. While in Halifax, Alberta was a dedicated volunteer for the Canadian Paraplegic Association and hosted many people who came to Halifax to play duplicate bridge. Later she enjoyed summers at Locharber Lake with family where she would work much of the day beautifying the property. Her garden in New Glasgow was the envy of all the neighbours. In New Glasgow, until Alberta was 90, she volunteered with seniors, helping them with Tuesday card parties.
Alberta was predeceased by infant daughter, Janet; grandson, Peter Brady; son-in-law, John Perkins; daughter-in-law, Judith; her brothers: Bill, George, Wallace, Scott and sisters, Eileen Robinson and Florence Coulter.
Alberta is survived by one brother, Meb (Ruby) Reid, Elnora; sisters-in-law: Elizabeth O’Brien, Halifax; Vera Reid, Vancouver Island; Ruth Reid, Poughkeepsie, NY; daughters: Mary Bullock, San Antonio, Texas; Kaireen (Doug) Chaytor, Halifax; and Heather Perkins, Fletcher’s Lake; sons: Joe (Faye), Woodside; Tom (Noreen Morrison), New Glasgow; William (Colette), Antigonish; and John (Debbie), Tyne Valley, PEI. She had 19 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family thanks the Newfoundland ladies, Margie Wall and Brenda Yule who supported Alberta in her home for almost two years before she moved to Arborstone Enhanced Care. Alberta had three years of wonderful care at Arborstone where, at age 93, she made a lot of new friends with residents and staff. Thank you to the fourth floor staff for making her life there so enjoyable.
Visiting will be at White Family Funeral Home, Kentville on Thursday, February 16, 2012 from 4-7 p.m. The funeral service will be celebrated by Father Larry Pitcher at St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church in Canning on Friday, February 17, 2012 at 11 a.m. Reception to follow.
Donations in Alberta’s memory can be made to St. Lawrence Roman Catholic Church (which have to be made through St. Francis of Assisi Roman Catholic Church in Wolfville). Being very fond of flowers, Alberta would like you to take some time to visit a friend and give them flowers while they can enjoy them.
