Jennie (Jackson) Ward
On February 15th, 2012 Jennie Ward (Jackson), Crowes Mills, left this world for a peaceful reunion with loved ones who have gone before; husband John Arthur Ward, parents Sarah and Charles Jackson, Westville; sisters Violet (Henry) Lindbaum, Midale, Saskatchewan; Mary (Clarence) Stellarton; brothers Charles (Elizabeth), Black Point and Fred (Doris), Orangeville, Ontario; companion Ira Fleming, Lower Onslow.
Born in Thorburn in 1924, she lived on the farm in MacPherson’s Mills where she developed a passion for the country way of life. At 13 1/2 she moved to Westville where five years later she fell in love with and married John Ward. A war bride she worked hard, raising their seven children in Westville then Bible Hill. In 1953 they moved to Crowes Mills where she resided until her passing. Jennie was a member of the Lower Onslow United Church, had served on the Crowes Mills Home and School, was a past member of the Rebecca’s Lodge of Westville, was a past member of the Colchester Rural Beautification, and a volunteer at the Colchester Regional Hospital as part of the Pink Coat Program and with Palliative Care. Her love for her family was the most important focus of Jennie’s life and she spent many hours reflecting on all aspects a large family involved as she tended to her beautiful property and home. An avid gardener with a love for birds and wildlife, Jennie and her husband travelled extensively seeking new sunsets to marvel at. During a trip to Europe in 1983, her horizons were expanded even further. Several years after losing John in 1995, she was blessed with a seven year companionship with Ira Fleming. They shared their golden years with tenderness, insight, love and laughter, always looking forward to the next card game or the next drive in the country to watch the sun go down.
Left to cherish her memory are her seven children: Sharon Trudeau, Lawrencetown, NS; Carolyn (Francis) Woods, Creston, BC; Bonnie Conrad Melanson (Bill Moore), Dartmouth; Nadine (Robert) Girard, Winnipeg; Barbara (Edwin) Simms, Crowes Mills; David and Timothy, Edson, AB; brother William (Fran) Jackson, New Glasgow, NS and sister Dorothy MacKinnon, Regina, Sask.; in addition to 15 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
