Thomas Richard Upton passed away at Pine Grove Care Centre on Friday, January 27, 2012 surrounded by his family.
He is remembered with love by his daughters Heather (Douglas) Giles, Laura York and son Mitchell (Tracy) Upton, his grandchildren Michael, Lisa and Lauren Giles, Kody York, and Caitlin and Morgan Upton along with his very special friend Mildred Gatien. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Gordon Peterson and was predeceased by our mom Sylvia Upton.
Tom was born in Alert Bay, BC on March 9, 1930 and raised in the Columbia Valley, Cultus Lake, BC. He moved around between many forestry and road camps until he met and married Sylvia in 1958. He drove truck out of the Kamloops area for several different trucking companies until he started his own business (Tom's Trucking). He was owner/operator until he retired in 1990.
Tom and Sylvia settled at Cottonwood Manor until her passing in 2010 and then he lived at The Hamlets and The Renaissance until his move to Pine Grove in November 2011. He only lived there for two months but he and Mildred made many new friends with the other residents and staff.
We'd like to thank all the wonderful care aides, nurses and staff at Pine Grove who cared for Tom during his stay and especially those who made the journey with us easier these last few days.
A Memorial Tea for Tom will be held on Monday, February 20th, 2012 at 11:30 a.m. at Cottonwood Manor in the Common Room at the East Entrance of 730 Cottonwood Avenue, Kamloops.
