It is with heavy hearts and sadness we announce the passing of Robert Lessley on Feb. 18, 2012, at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Sedalia, Missouri, Robert was the son of the late Fred and Eunice (Armstrong) Lessley.
Robert was a member of the Salvation Army Sydney Community Church. He was employed as an Electronic Engineer for Douglas Aircraft and H. Ruhl Machinery until his retirement. Robert was past president of the Caper’s Mixed Bowling. He loved fishing and gardening. Robert will be remembered by family and friends for his stern and gentle soul.
Robert will be sadly missed by his wife, Shirley (Manning); children, Leonard (Amy) Smith, Sherry (Stephen) Eveleigh and Dawn Tracey Lessley (Brian); grandchildren, Jonathan, Catlyn and Taryn; and sisters, Carol, Becky Sue and Mary.
Besides his parents, Robert was predeceased by brother, Charles and sister, Virginia.
Funeral service to celebrate the life of Robert Lessley will be held at Pier Community Funeral Home, All Faith Chapel, 1092 Victoria Rd. (entrance on Church St.), Sydney, on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2012, at 2 p.m. with Major Daniel Roode officiating. Light refreshments will be served in the reception area. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Donations in memory of Robert Lessley may be made to The Cove Guest Home or Salvation Army Sydney Community Church.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Cove Guest Home for the love and care given to Robert during his time of need.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the care and direction of Pier Community Funeral Home.
