Darryl MacKinnon

Passed in: Neil's Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada
Passed on: February 17th, 2012

It is with great sadness that the family of Darryl announces his passing at home on Friday, Feb. 17, 2012.
Besides being a wonderful husband, father and brother, Darryl was a special uncle to his many nieces and nephews, a cherished son-in-law and great friend to all who knew and loved him. Along with his wife, Kathy, Darryl was the proprietor of Back Cove Cottages for the past 12 years. He liked to work with his hands and was a carpenter by trade. He took great pride in his community and was a member of the NH-NH Volunteer Fire Dept., the NH-NH Development Association and a Meals-on-Wheels volunteer, where he brightened the days of the seniors he served.
Darryl was as gifted storyteller, a wonderful host to his cottage guests and he will be remembered for his hearty laugh, jokes and Sam Moon impersonation. A great nature lover, Darryl loved to sit on his back deck and watch the whales and the eagles. Among his many loves were the beach, fishing, music, driving, food, the Toronto Maple Leafs and especially his family and friends. He loved children and was a great babysitter.
Darryl is survived by his wife and best friend, Kathy (Ingram); his son, Ronald Neil, at home; brothers, Sheldon (Valerie), Neil’s Harbour and Dean, Sydney Forks; in-laws, Ron and Bernice Ingram, Neil’s Harbour; brother-in-law, Ross (Ellen) Ingram, Ingonish; many nieces, nephews and cousins, especially Rick, who was like a brother to him.
He was predeceased by his parents, Neil and Annie (Hatcher) MacKinnon.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, Sydney Mines. Visitation for Darryl will take place in the NH-NH Fire Hall on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2012, from 5-9 p.m. A celebration of Darryl’s life will be held at St. Andrew’s Anglican Church, Neil’s Harbour on Friday, Feb. 24, 2012 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Warren Huestis officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to NH-NH Volunteer Fire Dept., NH-NH Development Association or charity of your choice.
Words of comfort may be sent the family at jmjobesfuneralhome@ns.aliantzinc.ca.
