Gerry DeBruyn


Gerard DeBruyn, 85, of Scotsburn, passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2012 in the Maritime Odd Fellows Home with his wife of 61 years by his side.

Born in Utrecht, Netherlands, Gerry and his new bride moved to New York, U.S., to help with the family Garden Centre business. After 22 years in the Garden Centre business Gerry retired at the young age of 45. Gerry moved his family to Heathbell, Scotsburn and took up farming as a hobby. Gerry was born on December 17, 1926 to the late Gerard and Helen DeBruyn.

Gerry is survived by his wife Alberta, Durham; and three children, Ronnie (Sherry), South Carolina; Helen, Scotsburn; and Dick (Glenda), Durham. Opa will be dearly missed by 8 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren.

There will be no funeral service by his request. Cremation took place. Please come to join the DeBruyn family for a celebration of Opa’s life at the John Gammon Hall in Scotsburn on Saturday, February 25, from 2-4 p.m. No flowers as a request from the family.
