Bernard Harlen Rushton
Bernard Harlen Rushton, 90, Upper Economy, passed away peacefully at home, February 19, 2012, after an extended period of declining health. Born in Westchester Mountain, he was an only child of the late Wilson and Alma (Corbett) Rushton. The family moved to the Upper Economy property when Bernard was one year old and farmed there for a number of years. Bernard farmed; was employed by Wilson Equipment Ltd. For twenty years and spent his later working years on his beloved woodlot in Upper Economy. He had a firm understanding of “selective harvesting” before the term became commonplace. The family affectionately referred to his operation as “Big Limb Lumber”.
Bernard is survived by his wife Geneva (Starritt) Rushton, a daughter Lorraine O’Toole (Lewis) of Halifax; sons, Terry Rushton of Durham, ON, Larry Rushton (Donna) of Little Bass River; grandchildren Darrin Fletcher (Joanne), Annette Sprague (Grant), Jeremy Rushton; five great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Connie in 2001.
There will be no funeral service by Bernard’s request. Arrangements are under the direction of Mattatall~Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro.
