It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital, Stephenville, NL at the age of 94. Jean was born on November 3, 1917 in Apsey Brook, Random Island, NL and was the daughter of the late Roland and Emma Smith. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother and friend. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. She came to Stephenville with her husband David in 1943. She is survived by sons: Dave (Rose), Port au Port, Wayne, St. John’s, Gary, Regina, SK, Arthur Dennis (Butch), Stephenville, daughter, Wanda (Allen) Radford, Harve Boucher, NS, brother Clarence (late Jenny) Smith, Elliotts Cove, Pearl Smith, sister-in-law Mount Pearl, 13 grandchildren: Davey, Phillip, Todd, Dean, Trina, Amanda, Mark, Dawn, Justin, Matthew, Cole, Kristopher and Brandon and 17 great-grandchildren. Jean was predeceased by her husband, David, son, baby Gerald, daughter Sandra; brother, Harvey Smith, Mount Pearl; sister Gladys and brother-in-law, Lewis Hefford, Snook’s Harbour, sister, Merida Smith, Apsey Brook. Visitation will be held on Saturday, February 25, 2012 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in the First United Church, 43 St. Claire Avenue, Stephenville. Funeral Service and Interment to follow on Random Island. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Dr. McComiskey, the nursing staff at the Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital for their great care during her illness and for keeping her comfortable to her last days.
