WHIDDEN, Frances Louise – 88, Truro, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on Thursday afternoon, February 23, 2012, at Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro. Born October 29, 1923, in Truro, she was the daughter of the late Stanley and Louise (McCallum) McCallum. Frances was a member of Brunswick Street United Church. She loved needlepoint, making quilts, baking for her family and playing bridge. Many in her family will forever treasure the canvasses and quilts she created. She was a former member of Truro Curling Club and Diamond Rebekah Lodge. Frances was the last surviving member of her immediate family and is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Foster; sons, Gary (Beverly) Whidden, North River; Philip (Barb) Whidden, Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island; grandsons, Christopher (Amber) Whidden, Oromocto, New Brunswick; Andrew Whidden, Victoria, British Columbia; great grandsons, Mason, Issac; many nieces and nephews. She will be sadly missed by her faithful canine “granddaughter”, Abbie. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her brothers, Earl McCallum, Vernon McCallum. Special thanks are extended to EHS paramedics, doctors and nursing staff at Colchester Regional Hospital Emergency Room and ICU as well as VON caregivers; your compassion is greatly appreciated. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mattatall ~ Varner Funeral Home, 55 Young Street, Truro, where Frances’ family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m., Saturday, February 25, 2012, and where the funeral service will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, February 26, 2012, Reverend David Lutes officiating. Reception will follow. Spring interment in Crossroads Cemetery, Valley. Family flowers only. If so desired, donations in Frances’ memory to Brunswick Street United Church or Alzheimer Society of Nova Scotia are welcomed.
