Dorothy Biccum

Passed in: Kamloops, British Columbia, Canada
Passed on: February 14th, 2012

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and sister. Dorothy Biccum passed away at the age of 67 on February 14, 2012 in the presence of her immediate family in the Kamloops hospital after succumbing to her battle with cancer.

Dorothy lived, and worked, her entire life in the valley. Her first job was cooking/serving at Uncle Ed’s Grill, and she went on to cook at many establishments throughout the valley. Her family and friends, of whom she loved dearly, also enjoyed many meals prepared by her; she prepared the food for the majority of family and community functions she was involved with. After cooking, Dorothy and her husband owned and operated Aberdeen Wood Products, located in Lower Nicola BC. In 1961, she married the love of her life, Gordon Biccum, of whom she met at Uncle Ed’s Grill a year prior. As her children grew up, Dorothy was involved in many community organizations including Merritt Minor Hockey, Baseball, The Merritt Centennials and The Quilchena on the Lake Golf Course. In the latter portion of her life, she spent a lot of time at her lot at Nicola Bay RV, where she enjoyed the company of friends and family for many summers.

Over the years, Dorothy enjoyed many friendships with people she had met in the valley; these connections, her family and the beauty of her surroundings are the reasons she decided to live her life in the Nicola Valley.

Dorothy leaves to mourn her husband Gordon; her children Danny Biccum and Diana (Joe) Froment; her mother Edith Walker; her brother James (Sue) Walker Jr.; her sisters Donna (Dan) Klein, Janet (Mike) Latremouille, and Debbie (Harold) Cartier; her grandchildren Kristian, Emily, Brian, Cameron, and Danny-Willem; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as numerous great nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her grandparents Henry and Margaret Cleasby and her father James Walker Sr.

The family would like to elicit sincere gratitude to the doctors, nurses and care-aids at the Nicola Valley Medical Centre for their astute care of Dorothy. There will be a celebration of life held for Dorothy on March 10 from 1-5pm and The Quilchena on the Lake golf course, which will be open to the public. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations to the BC Cancer Society be made in Dorothy’s memory.
